Icknield and Pippins Grants Committee

The Grants Committee is a new joint committee between Icknield and Pippins with the aim to identify and apply for funding of resources and opportunities for Icknield Primary School and Pippins Preschool to benefit short and long term operations in both.

We have been very successful in obtaining funding and opportunities for the school, such as getting European Space Agency Tim Peake Space Ambassador Status, arranging Cambridge University Botanic Garden staff to come to help the pupils plant tree new trees that we obtained for free from the Woodland Trust, free gardening tools from Scotdales, free paint and 120m of new native hedging.

Applying for funding can be time consuming, but as a team effort and by creating high quality templates that can be tailored, the work itself reduces and the payback for the school increases. As a committee we ask staff, pupils and parents what they would like extra funding for, and to reduce extra workload to teaching staff we look for the funding calls and apply. We also circulate any new funding calls to see if they would be useful for the school.

There is a wealth of grants out there for many activities, infrastructure, equipment and experiences - it just takes time to apply! We don't always need more 'stuff', applying for experiences, art workshops, music, museums day out are also great ideas!  We meet once a term (evening) and the rest is done by email. The workload depends on how many grants you would like to write, but we aim to each submit one per term.

If you are interested in joining the team, especially if you have experience in grant writing (but experience not necessary!) please contact the Grants Committee via the School Office - office@icknield.cambs.sch.uk
